Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has broken yet another Guinness World Record, this time with a dish at the heart of West Africa’s culinary pride, jollof rice.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, at Victoria Island in Lagos, Hilda partnered with Gino Nigeria to cook and serve the largest portion of Nigerian-style jollof rice ever recorded, weighing an astonishing 8,780 kilograms (over 19,000 pounds).
The record-breaking feat quickly turned into a festival, drawing thousands of excited spectators. The atmosphere was electrified by live music performances, while the crowd erupted in chants of “Hilda, we want jollof!” as they eagerly awaited their share of the meal.
It took Hilda and her team nine hours of nonstop cooking, fueled by more than a ton of gas, to produce over 16,600 plates of rice. The dish featured basmati rice, assorted meats, rich spice blends, and the patience and precision that have become Hilda’s trademark in the kitchen.
This latest triumph marks Hilda’s second Guinness World Record. She first gained global fame in 2023 when she cooked for 93 continuous hours, a marathon that not only secured her a place in the record books but also sparked a wave of culinary challenges across Africa.
Hilda’s new achievement further cements her reputation as one of Africa’s most celebrated chefs and a symbol of creativity, resilience, and cultural pride.
