A tragic incident has occurred in the Upper East Region, where gunmen attacked a bus traveling from Bawku to Bolgatanga, resulting in one death and five critical injuries.
The bus was under military escort when it was ambushed by the assailants. However, the accompanying military personnel managed to contain the situation, preventing further casualties.
The injured victims have since been rushed to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga for urgent medical care.
Although the motive behind the attack remains unclear, it is suspected to be linked to the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.
This incident follows another recent attack in which gunmen dressed in military uniforms killed a woman and her two children in their residence.
The latest attack has brought the total number of deaths to 46 since the conflict re-emerged in October 2024. The increased violence has sparked fear among residents, who are calling for enhanced security measures to curb the escalating tensions.
