The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Gregory Afoko, a key suspect in the 2015 murder of former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama, after nearly a decade in detention.
Afoko’s bail was set at GH₵500,000 with two sureties, marking a significant development in a case that has dragged on for almost 10 years.
Arrested in 2015, Afoko is accused of conspiring with others to assassinate Mahama in a brutal acid attack outside his residence in Bolgatanga.
Although his release on bail represents progress for his defense, the trial is still ongoing as the state pursues prosecution.
Mahama sustained severe injuries after an acidic substance was allegedly poured on him outside his home on May 20, 2015. He later succumbed to his injuries at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
