The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially abolished the 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) effective April 2nd 2025. In a directive issued by the Commissioner-General all charging entities must immediately stop deducting the levy across all platforms.

The GRA has also ordered that any E-Levy deductions made on or after April 2nd must be refunded. Customers are advised to report any wrongful deductions to their charging entities for a prompt refund.

The E-Levy introduced in 2022 faced massive public resistance due to its impact on digital transactions. Its repeal is part of the government’s efforts to ease financial burdens on citizens and boost mobile money usage.

The GRA has assured the public of a smooth transition and is collaborating with financial institutions to ensure compliance. Customers with concerns can contact the GRA through their toll-free number WhatsApp or email.
