Traders and transport unions in Accra’s CMB enclave on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, staged a protest against what they describe as attempts by private developers to encroach on lands belonging to the lorry station.

The demonstration, led by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Concerned Drivers Association, the Commercial Transport Operators, and the Container Owners Association, began at the Ridge Roundabout and headed towards the Jubilee House, where the groups are expected to present a petition to the Presidency.

According to the unions, the alleged encroachment has displaced drivers and traders who rely on the CMB lorry station for their daily livelihoods. They warned that the situation has forced many traders onto the streets, worsening traffic congestion and raising safety concerns in the area.

The unions are calling on the Presidency to intervene and protect the lorry station, stressing that it plays a vital role in Accra’s transport and trading activities.
