Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council Gives Three-Day Notice to “Liberia Camp” Residents to Vacate Premises

The Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council in the Central Region has issued a three-day ultimatum to the residents of the “Liberia Camp” to vacate the area. This decision comes as the traditional authorities plan to demolish the former refugee camp to make way for the construction of a market, which aims to provide a solution for traders affected by the ongoing Kasoa-Winneba Highway project.

Nana Bentum Okyerefu, the Odikro of Kasoa CP, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “We are giving the government or the people three days because it is urgent.”

The Omankrado of the Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council, Nana Kwesi Kwaansah, appealed to the government not to intervene in the decision of the traditional authorities to demolish the camp. He explained that previous appeals to the government had been ignored, leading the local authorities to take matters into their own hands.

Nana Kwesi Kwaansah stated, “We plead with the government to stay out of this because the traditional authorities have earmarked the place for development since the government has refused to heed our call for this exercise. We have, therefore, resolved to undertake the exercise ourselves.”

Past attempts by both traditional authorities and the Gomoa East District Assembly to demolish the “Liberia Camp” have been unsuccessful.
