The world is mourning the passing of Pope Francis, who died peacefully at age 88. Tributes continue to flood in, with world leaders reflecting on his enduring impact.

Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama paid tribute, recalling a personal audience with the late Pontiff and honoring his “compassion, humility, and commitment to social justice.” Mahama expressed heartfelt condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and Catholics across Ghana.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires in 1936, Pope Francis became the first Latin American and Jesuit Pope. His papacy was marked by advocacy for the poor, interfaith dialogue, environmental stewardship, and a reformist approach to Church governance.

Pope Francis succeeded Benedict XVI in 2013 and led the Church for over a decade until his passing on Easter Monday. The Vatican now prepares for the historic process of electing a new Pope.
