Renowned news presenter and health reporter, Nadima Umar Uthman from GHOne TV, has been honored as one of the esteemed journalists selected to receive the prestigious 2023 Covering Rare Diseases Fellowship.

Organized by the National Press Foundation (NPF) in the United States, this highly regarded accolade will bring together 25 exceptional journalists in November 2023 to delve into the critical area of rare diseases.

With over five years of experience as a dedicated broadcast journalist in Ghana, Nadima Umar Uthman has made significant contributions in the field of health reporting. Her unwavering commitment to delivering accurate, insightful, and compassionate health news has established her as a trusted voice in health reporting, especially concerning maternal and child health.

Throughout her career, Nadima has excelled at simplifying complex health topics into engaging and educational narratives for audiences in Ghana and across Africa. Her extensive portfolio covers a wide range of crucial health issues, including childhood cancers, sickle cell disease, rare diseases, lead poisoning in children, dementia, and maternal mortality, among others.

Nadima’s passion lies in utilizing her work to advocate for health equity and highlight emerging technologies as vital tools to address health challenges in Africa. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a major in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, she brings a wealth of knowledge and unwavering dedication to her craft.

The NPF Covering Rare Diseases Fellowship aims to facilitate extensive discussions, online briefings, and question-and-answer sessions with leading experts in rare diseases, diagnostics, targeted testing, and drug development. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with leaders from patient advocacy groups and accomplished journalists who have extensively covered rare disease issues. Additionally, the selected journalists will receive reporting grants to support their rare disease-related projects.
