Member of Parliament for Binduri, Issifu Mahmoud, has described the GHC150,000 allocated for monitoring education-related projects as “woefully inadequate.”
Parliament recently approved GHC250,000 per MP through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support education projects, with an additional GHC150,000 designated for project oversight. However, the allocation has sparked debate over its sufficiency.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Mahmoud defended the need for more funds, citing the financial pressures MPs face from their constituents, including school fees and medical support.
“I know some senior MPs who spend far more than GHC150,000 in a month to meet the needs of their constituencies,” he said, emphasizing the challenges of serving as a legislator.
Despite criticisms of the allocation, the funds are expected to enhance educational infrastructure and learning conditions across various communities.
