Ghana Statistical Service Wins UN Datathon 2023

A squad of five Data Scientists hailing from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has clinched the top honors in the UN Datathon 2023 competition. Their victory stems from the creation of an innovative Story Map designed for tracking progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN Datathon, geared towards fostering data-driven solutions for SDG implementation, saw participants tasked with crafting their solutions within a tight 72-hour timeframe. The Ghanaian team from GSS stood out among the 400 competing teams worldwide, representing 110 countries.

A press release from the GSS, disseminated in Accra yesterday and shared with the Ghanaian Times, revealed that the triumphant team not only secured the overall win but also snagged three special awards in the five available categories. Their exceptional achievements included recognition for Best Visualisation, Best Presentation, and Best Youth Team.
