Ghana Set to Receive Newly Acquired Diesel-Powered Trains for Regional and Long-Distance Lines

Ghana is on the brink of welcoming a shipment of two recently procured diesel-powered trains, which are poised to enhance both regional and long-distance travel within the country. The trains, previously housed in a warehouse in Poland, are now en route to Ghana, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s transportation infrastructure.

Comprising 12 modern passenger coaches, the initial units will undergo rigorous testing upon arrival, specifically along the Tema-Mpakadan Railway line. A video shared by user @SIKAOFFICIAL1 captured the trains being towed from the Polish Harbor warehouse onto the vessel designated for their transportation to Ghana.

Yaw Osuwu, Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Development Authority, affirmed that upon their arrival, the trains will be deployed on the Tema-Mpakadan line. He further disclosed that the second batch of trains is scheduled for shipment in May, with an anticipated arrival in Ghana by August.

Speaking on the progress of the Tema-Mpakadan Railway, Osuwu highlighted that it stands at an impressive 98% completion rate. Commissioning of the line is slated for May 2024, aligning with the arrival of the second batch of trains.
