The Ghana Police Service has revealed the cause of death of 24-year-old Lois Abena Koranteng, who was found unconscious in a swimming pool at a hotel in Takoradi. On June 8, 2024, Koranteng was discovered in the pool and rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the incident, police commenced an investigation, visiting the hotel and hospital. Their inspection of Koranteng’s body found no signs of assault.
An autopsy was conducted on June 8, 2024, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, in the presence Koranteng’s family. The pathologist identified the causes of death as asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police personally apologized to Koranteng’s family for the lack of sufficient communication regarding the investigation, following dissatisfaction expressed by the family and media. He assured them that the investigation is ongoing and that the police will provide regular updates.
The Ghana Police Service has pledged to continue working closely with Koranteng’s family as the investigation proceeds.
