
Ghana has been plunged into deep mourning following the tragic crash of a military helicopter in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which has claimed the lives of all eight people on board.
The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter, en route from Accra to Obuasi, went off radar and was later found burned beyond recognition. Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion followed by a fiery wreck in the forested area near Adansi Akrofuom.
In a somber statement, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the identities of the eight victims, which include high-ranking government officials, military personnel, and party executives:

Describing the crash as a “national tragedy,” Mr. Debrah announced that all national flags across the country are to be flown at half-mast in honour of the fallen public servants and military officers.
The Ghana Armed Forces and other relevant agencies have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The nation awaits answers as tributes pour in from across the political divide and the general public.
