Ghana has commemorated the 78th anniversary of the historic 28th February Crossroads Shooting with a solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony in Accra.

The event honours Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey, three ex-servicemen who were shot by colonial police in 1948 while marching to present a petition to then Governor Sir Gerald Creasy at the Christianborg Crossroads. The incident is widely regarded as a major turning point in Ghana’s struggle for independence.

Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang laid a wreath on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana.

The Chief of the Defence Staff, William Agyapong, laid a wreath on behalf of the security services, while Peter Kofi Faidoo, National Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana, laid one on behalf of veterans.
