In a grand event held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, the Ghana Hotels Association (GHA) celebrated its sixth edition of awards, honoring outstanding hotels and hoteliers within the tourism and hospitality industry. The awards aimed to commend member establishments and individuals who have demonstrated excellence in various aspects of their hotel operations.
Dr. Edward Ackah-Nyamike Jnr., President of the Ghana Hotels Association, emphasized that the awards were designed to enhance hotel service delivery. Under the theme “Sustaining the Hotel Industry in Ghana Post-COVID-19,” the event focused on strategies to ensure the survival of hotels in the financial, environmental, social, technological, and political aspects after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlighting the increasing importance of digitalization, Dr. Ackah-Nyamike mentioned that online and virtual transactions gained prominence during the pandemic. The selection process for awardees incorporated digitalization, allowing member hotels in good standing to nominate themselves through an online portal for various departmentalized awards.
Despite a limited response to the online self-nomination approach, Dr. Ackah-Nyamike reassured attendees that the integrity and credibility of the GHA Awards remained intact. He commended the confident and courageous hotels that participated, emphasizing that every awardee deserved recognition for their efforts in maintaining high-quality hotel services in Ghana.
Several hotels and hoteliers were honored across different categories. Notable winners included Nim Avenue Hotel (One Star) in the Northern Region, Coconut Grove Regency Hotel (Three Star), and Labadi Beach Hotel (Five Star). Awards were presented for categories such as Conference and Banqueting Team of the Year, Front of House Team of the Year, Green Hotel of the Year, Hotel Restaurant of the Year, and more.
Additionally, special awards were given to individuals for their significant contributions to the hotel industry. Mr. Seth Laryea received the Ghana Hotels Association Honorary Award, and the Ghana Hotels Association Lifetime Achievement Award went to Mr. Sajid Khan, General Manager of Tang Palace Hotel, in recognition of his 50 years of experience in the hotel business.
The event also acknowledged regional excellence, with the Central Regional Branch receiving the Ghana Hotels Association Regional Branch of the Year award. Sir. Cosmas Alhassan, C.E.O. of Nim Avenue Hotel in the Northern Region, was honored as the Ghana Hotels Association Hotelier of the Year.
In addition, Dr. Abraham Ato Ahinful, Chief Executive Officer of NAATOA Hotel in the Central Region, was recognized with the Ghana Hotels Association Award for Significant Contribution.
