The Government of Ghana has donated 40 metric tonnes of locally made cocoa products to the people of Palestine, in a humanitarian gesture aimed at easing the suffering caused by the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
President John Dramani Mahama announced the donation on August 1, emphasizing Ghana’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and its commitment to shared humanity. The donation includes Premier Ghana-made chocolate and other cocoa-based products under the Golden Tree brand.
“The images and stories emerging from Gaza, particularly the suffering of innocent civilians, are heartbreaking,” President Mahama said. “This donation symbolizes Ghana’s rich natural resources and serves as essential nutrition, especially for malnourished mothers and children.”
He also reaffirmed Ghana’s support for a two-state solution and called for renewed dialogue and peace efforts in the region.
Receiving the donation, Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al-Sattari, expressed deep gratitude. He highlighted the emotional significance of the gesture, especially amid the severe food shortages and humanitarian hardship caused by aid blockades over the past two years.
“If this chocolate arrives in Gaza—and it will arrive—and our people only see the chocolate, you cannot imagine how happy they will be,” the Ambassador said, adding, “You can’t imagine how much more than happy they will be when they eat.”
He also acknowledged countries like Egypt and France for their ongoing support for Gaza and advocacy for a two-state solution.
The donation ceremony was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and humanitarian organizations. President Mahama concluded with a message of hope and solidarity:
“To our brothers and sisters in Palestine, know that you do not walk alone. Ghana stands with you. May peace prevail.”
