Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, faced a daunting test in an international friendly against the United States of America, and the result was far from favorable. The team suffered a 4-0 defeat, marking their second consecutive loss, with the previous being a 2-0 defeat to Mexico just two days prior.
The encounter against the United States proved to be a harsh challenge for Ghana, as all four of the USA’s goals were scored in the first half. The American team showcased their prowess, with goals by G. Reyna in the 10th and 39th minute, a penalty kick converted by C. Pulisic in the 19th minute, and an additional strike by F. Balogun in the 22nd minute.
With the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) just around the corner, scheduled to kick off in January next year in Cote D’Ivoire, the Black Stars face a pressing need to address their performance issues. The consecutive losses serve as a stern wake-up call, urging the team to identify and rectify their shortcomings before entering the highly anticipated AFCON tournament.
