Ghana battalion position in southern Lebanon hit by 2 missiles, 2 Soldiers Critically Injured

Two Ghanaian soldiers have been critically injured after a Ghana battalion position in southern Lebanon came under a missile attack amid ongoing hostilities in the region.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on March 6, 2026, the incident occurred as a result of the ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The statement indicated that the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was struck by two missiles between 17:45 and 17:52 local time.

Two soldiers were critically injured in the attack, while another soldier suffered trauma. The Officers’ Mess facility was also hit and completely destroyed by fire.

The injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and are reported to be in stable condition. Arrangements are underway to evacuate them to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further medical care.

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that troops stationed in the area remain safe and are currently sheltering in underground bunkers due to the fragile security situation.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has formally protested the incident to the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Authorities have urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect their responsibilities and ensure the safety of peacekeepers operating under the UN mission in the region.
