Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that the presidency is saving approximately GH₵120,000 monthly after cancelling all satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Kwakye Ofosu explained that President John Dramani Mahama ordered the cancellation as part of broader efforts to cut wasteful spending.
“When we came to the Jubilee House, there were multiple subscriptions in addition to the local channels we watched. After reviewing the operational costs, we discovered we were spending about GH₵120,000 monthly on satellite subscriptions. President Mahama has cancelled all of that,” he revealed.
He criticised the previous expenditure, questioning why such a significant amount was spent on television services when smaller sums could address basic needs in underserved communities.
“There are communities where a broken water pump costing GH₵1,000 is all that stands between them and access to clean water. Yet, here we were spending GH₵120,000 just to watch TV,” he added.
The move aligns with the administration’s goal to prioritise essential services and reduce unnecessary costs across government institutions.
