The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has amended its statutes to allow its president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members to serve up to three terms in office, extending the limit from two terms. The change was approved at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo explained that the revision to Article 37.4 was made to align with FIFA’s governance model. Under the new rule, the mandate for the president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members remains four years per term, beginning immediately after the congress at which they are elected and ending at the congress where their successors take office.
No individual may serve more than three terms, whether consecutive or not. This means the GFA president and other council members could remain in office for up to 12 years if consistently re-elected, a move the Association says brings Ghana’s football governance in line with global standards.
