On October 26, 2023, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) announced the inclusion of five accomplished journalists from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in the list of nominees for the prestigious 27th GJA Awards. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 27, 2023, at the International Conference Centre.

The five nominees from GBC who have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to journalism are Beatrice Senadju, Gifty Adjei, Kweku Bolton, Akua Oforiwa Darko, and Doreen Ampofo. They are among the 30 carefully selected nominees set to receive awards at this year’s event, which is themed “Leveraging media freedom to sustain the democratic and security architecture! The litmus test of election 2024.”

During a press conference, the Chairperson of the nine-member awards committee, Betty Apau-Oppong, highlighted that the GJA had received a total of 127 submissions, which encompassed 15 entries from students and 16 from various media houses, covering a wide array of 34 categories.

Betty Apau-Oppong further explained that the nominated individuals had met the rigorous criteria set by the committee, which included requirements such as multiple sourcing, interviews, and the creation of captivating headlines. This rigorous assessment process ensured that only the most deserving candidates were selected.

While celebrating the high quality of this year’s submissions as an indicator of growth and development within the media landscape, Apau-Oppong also acknowledged some challenges faced by the committee. These included limited entries in the radio category and instances where submissions were placed in inappropriate categories.
