The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has intensified its nationwide campaign against illegal mining, following a successful operation in the Ahafo Region.

In the latest crackdown, NAIMOS operatives raided an illegal mining site at Bronikrom–Hwediem, where several miners, including a Burkinabe national, were arrested. The site was located dangerously close to the Hwediem–Goaso Highway—just about 10 meters from the main road.

According to officials, the operation was carried out after weeks of surveillance confirmed ongoing illegal mining activities posing severe environmental and safety risks. The raid uncovered extensive land destruction and contamination of nearby water bodies, which have negatively affected local farming activities and livelihoods.

Mining equipment used at the site was seized, and the area has been cordoned off to prevent re-entry. The suspects, including the foreign national, are currently assisting security agencies with investigations and will be processed for court soon.

NAIMOS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining sustained anti-galamsey efforts nationwide, warning that both local and foreign offenders will face the full force of the law.
