Ten state institutions, including the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), owe the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over GH¢1 billion in taxes. This was disclosed during a public accounts committee sitting on Monday, July 29.

Officials from GRA revealed that some entities, despite facing cash flow challenges, have indicated their willingness to pay once their financial situations improve. For instance, both GACL and the Graphic Corporation have requested a moratorium to manage their cash flow issues before making payments.

The committee also raised concerns about less viable entities like the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). The Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei Asare, mentioned that if all efforts to collect the taxes fail, they might seek parliamentary approval to write off the debts.
