Funeral of Late Ga Manye Delayed by Court Injunction

A court injunction has halted the scheduled funeral of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, who passed away in December 2022. Organizers had planned to hold the funeral this weekend, but the court order imposes a ten-day delay on the proceedings.

The court order explicitly states that the defendants, including the Funeral Committee chaired by Nii Otintor II and all committee members, as well as anyone associated with the funeral arrangements, are prohibited from participating in any activities related to the late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, for the next ten days.

As part of the funeral preparations, the Ga Traditional Council had initially directed that offices and businesses in Accra be closed from October 26th to October 29th, with additional mourning period requirements. However, a recent amendment has specified that shops and markets should now only be closed on Saturday, October 28th, 2023. Furthermore, the council has requested that all markets, shops, and offices in Accra be adorned with red and black, the traditional mourning colors, from October 15th to October 31st, 2023. The public is encouraged to fully cooperate with these directives.
