Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has underscored his commitment to realistic promises, contrasting his approach with that of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mahama, speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Tamale as part of his ‘Building the Ghana We Want Together Tour,’ addressed concerns raised by pre-tertiary teachers regarding the challenges affecting education due to inadequate resources.

Expressing his stance on the matter, Mahama emphasized the need to refrain from making promises that cannot be fulfilled, especially given the dire state of the economy. He highlighted unfulfilled commitments made by the current administration, such as the promise to build factories and dams in every district.

In response to the difficulties faced by pre-tertiary teachers, Mahama proposed providing accommodation support to encourage teachers to reside on campus. This initiative aims to reduce expenses and create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Mahama stated, “I’ve acknowledged the dire state of the economy, and therefore, I cannot assure everyone of a salary increment. Unlike those who made grand promises without fulfilling them, I am committed to realistic solutions.”

He added, “We have recognized the challenges faced by pre-tertiary teachers, and I have suggested solutions, including providing accommodation in schools to encourage more teachers to stay on campus.”
