Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has been denied bail by the Akropong Circuit Court following his arrest over an alleged demolition dispute at Kitase.
Blay was handed over to police in Akropong after officers executed a warrant for his arrest on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The case relates to an alleged demolition order said to have been issued by the former NPP chairman concerning a house under construction on a parcel of land at Kitase.
According to reports, the owner of the land lodged a complaint with the police, leading to an invitation for Blay to assist with investigations. Authorities say he failed to honour the invitation.
Charges were subsequently filed against him, but he was absent from court during the scheduled arraignment in April 2025 without explanation. The court then issued a warrant for his arrest, which was carried out this week.
Sources close to Blay, however, claim he was unaware of the arrest warrant prior to his arrest.
The sources further stated that the dispute involves a parcel of land the former NPP chairman reportedly purchased in 1994, which later became the subject of litigation.
They insist that Blay did not order the demolition of any building but only instructed that a bare portion of the land be cleared in January 2026 to prevent the breeding of dangerous animals such as reptiles.
According to the same sources, the complainant had previously secured a favourable judgment at the Koforidua High Court, but that ruling has since been appealed.
They also indicated that attempts to serve the complainant with legal processes relating to the appeal were unsuccessful.
The sources maintained that apart from the ongoing appeal case, Blay had no knowledge of any other court action against him until the arrest warrant was executed.
