The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that four educators have been apprehended for engaging in exam malpractices at Bekwai, located in the Ashanti Region.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which commenced on Monday, July 8, across various centers nationwide, has proceeded smoothly and peacefully. Stakeholders, including President Akufo-Addo, had issued numerous warnings to students to refrain from cheating.
Despite these warnings, the Head of the National Office at WAEC, Wendy Addy-Lamptey, in a media briefing after inspecting some examination centers, urged stakeholders to enforce discipline among students to prevent cheating.
While she commended the overall peaceful and smooth conduct of the exams, she noted a few incidents, including the arrest of some teachers in Obuasi-Bekwai for assisting candidates.
“We have had a good conduct of exams this morning and this afternoon. However, we received reports of a few incidents. Some teachers in Obuasi, Bekwai, were caught trying to assist candidates,” Addy-Lamptey stated. “About three or four teachers have been picked up, and we are awaiting more details which will be released in due course.”
