Four officials from Somé Senior High School in the Ketu South Municipality have been remanded in police custody by the Tokor Circuit Court.
The accused, including the Assistant Headmistress for academics, the Bursar, the Matron, and the storekeeper, pleaded not guilty to theft charges. They were arraigned on Monday, May 27, for allegedly stealing food supplies intended for students.
In response, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the Bursar, storekeeper, and Matron, pending an investigation. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident within two weeks.
The staff members, identified as Richard Ametorxe (Bursar), Yorm Dzikumu (Matron), and Alex Obuadi (Storekeeper), have been immediately interdicted by GES.
The investigation began following a search conducted by some alumni and the local assembly member on the evening of Friday, May 24. The search, carried out as the Bursar and Matron were leaving the school, uncovered food items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, among other items in the Matron’s possession.
