Former NDC MP Timothy Ataboadey Awontirim  Criticizes Bawumia’s Campaign Strategy Ahead of Elections: Describes it as an SRC Campaign

In a candid discussion with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning, Timothy Ataboadey Awontirim, former Member of Parliament for Builsa North constituency, voiced significant reservations about the campaign approach of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer. Awontirim expressed concerns over Bawumia’s early focus on electricity-related issues, labeling it as a misplaced start to the election campaign.

“The elections this year are going to be based on policies. If today you are still talking about ‘dumsor’ economy, you have started on a bad note,” Awontirim asserted, emphasizing the need for a shift towards policy-driven narratives.

Awontirim pointed out several perceived shortcomings within the NPP’s campaign strategies, highlighting communication gaps, a lack of policy clarity, and an overall messaging deficiency. He stressed the importance of a more targeted and inclusive approach to connect with a wider audience and ensure electoral success for the party.

He particularly raised concerns about inconsistent messaging, inadequate elaboration on critical policy proposals, and a failure to engage with grassroots supporters effectively. Awontirim stressed the necessity of a well-coordinated effort to build public trust and effectively convey the party’s vision to voters.

Asserting that “Bawumia must be a serious candidate,” Awontirim criticized the focus on attacking John Mahama instead of presenting comprehensive policies. He questioned Bawumia’s policy-making and implementation abilities, expressing doubt about his capacity to govern effectively at the highest level.

“Having been in power for the past seven to eight years, he should have known the policies he’s going out with; he does not even need a manifesto,” Awontirim stated, highlighting Bawumia’s responsibilities and the necessity for innovative ideas to bolster his presidential aspirations.

In urging Bawumia to articulate new ideas and present a compelling reason for Ghanaians to vote for him, Awontirim cautioned against a campaign approach reminiscent of an SRC presidential bid.
