Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Daniel Okyem Aboagye, has sadly passed away, with reports indicating that he died in the early hours of September 23 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following a brief illness. The family has not yet issued an official statement regarding his death.
Okyem Aboagye served as the NPP MP for Bantama from 2017 to 2021, having won the NPP primaries in 2015 by defeating Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu. During his tenure in parliament, he held the position of a member in the Finance Committee of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic. However, he faced a tough primary contest in the run-up to the 2020 elections and was defeated by Francis Asenso-Boakye, with Dr. Kokofu supporting Asenso-Boakye’s bid for the Minister of Works and Housing.
Outside of politics, Mr. Okyem Aboagye was also known for his role as the CEO of the well-known transport company, 2M Express. He pursued his education at the University of Ghana, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Furthermore, he graduated in 2002 with an MBA and MIS in Accounting from Troy University in Alabama, USA. In 2003, Okyem Aboagye obtained certification as a public accountant from the Certified Public Accountant of the USA.
His professional journey began in 1998 as the branch manager of SINAPI ABA TRUST and later extended to roles such as project manager at Opportunity International from 2003 to 2006. He also served as the financial controller of Globe Union in the United States and held the position of CEO at MGI Microfinance from 2008 to 2012.
