Former Headmaster Detained for Allegedly Receiving GH¢72,759 in Unearned Salaries

Patrick Wisdom Krampah, the former headmaster of Ahamansu L. A. Erishad Primary School in the Oti Region, finds himself in custody following his arrest by the Jasikan Police on Monday. The arrest stems from allegations of unlawfully obtaining GH¢72,759.32 in unearned salaries.

Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), took decisive action by instructing the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to collaborate with the police in apprehending Krampah for financial irregularities against the state.

Sources within the Jasikan Police confirmed Krampah’s arrest to the Daily Graphic, indicating that he is currently assisting authorities with investigations into the matter.

The roots of this controversy trace back to the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report on the Account of Ghana, Ministries, Departments, and Other Agencies for the year ending December 31, 2020, which was presented to the committee on January 31, 2024. The report unveiled that Krampah continued to receive salary payments between February 2018 and June 2020 despite leaving his position as headteacher to join the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as a project assistant.

The Auditor-General has recommended the recovery of the misappropriated funds from Krampah, along with accrued interest at the prevailing bank rate, to be deposited into the Auditor-General’s Recovery Account with the Bank of Ghana. In the event of non-compliance, the report suggests recourse to the district director of education and validators for reimbursement.
