Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister for Education, has officially announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum declared, “With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party.”
Known for spearheading major educational reforms during his time as minister, Dr. Adutwum now joins a growing list of NPP stalwarts expressing interest in leading the party into the next presidential election.
His announcement comes as the party confirms January 31, 2026, as the official date for its presidential primaries. This decision follows recommendations by the NPP’s constitutional review committee and was adopted by the party’s National Council.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the party’s 2024 flagbearer, remains a top contender, with other figures like Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong also expected to join the race.
