The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly denied allegations that Ghanaian passports are being issued to foreign nationals, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 24, the Ministry responded to a viral social media video alleging that foreigners can easily acquire Ghanaian passports. It labelled the claims as “false and baseless,” adding that the passport acquisition process involves strict verification protocols.
“All passport applications undergo rigorous checks to confirm the applicant’s nationality before approval is granted,” the statement clarified.
It further emphasized that submitting the necessary documents does not automatically guarantee approval. Applicants must also participate in a mandatory in-person vetting process to authenticate their identity and the information provided.
“The Ministry wishes to assure that it will not under any circumstance avail such a security document of the state to non-nationals,” it stated.
To reinforce passport security, the Ministry noted ongoing investments in modern technology and staff training.
The public was also cautioned against submitting forged or fraudulent documents, with the Ministry reminding citizens that such acts are punishable under Sections 158, 159, 166, and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29
