Five individuals have died following a deadly accident on the Dodo-Pepesu stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region on Wednesday, April 9.
The accident involved a VIP bus with registration number GT 6598-10 heading from Nkwanta and a Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GT 6151-U coming from Kadjebi.
An eyewitness, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) anonymously, said the VIP bus attempted to swerve a pothole and collided head-on with the Sprinter bus from the opposite direction.
Four passengers in the Sprinter bus reportedly died on the spot, while one fatality occurred in the VIP bus.
Assemblyman for the Dodo-Pepesu/Dodo-Tamale Electoral Area, Mr. Kingsford Seyram Adzimah, acknowledged hearing about the incident but stated he lacked further details, as he was not at the scene.
Kadjebi District Police Commander, Superintendent Frank Nana Asomaning, confirmed the crash to GNA. He said the bodies have been sent to St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital in Dodi-Papase, where 12 others who were injured are also receiving medical care.
