Five Arrested in Fatal Shooting Incident Near Nsawam

The Ghana Police Service has arrested five individuals in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 30, 2024, resulting in one death and the injury of a police officer at Okanta, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The incident took place when police officers from the Eastern South Regional Police Headquarters, accompanied by complainant Daniel Dosu, were ambushed by an unknown assailant while en route to effect an arrest at Okanta.

Dosu sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead and was transported along with the injured police officer to the hospital. Unfortunately, Dosu was pronounced dead upon arrival.

An intelligence-led operation following the attack led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Daniel Quaye, who was identified as one of the individuals the deceased complainant was guiding the police to apprehend. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of four additional suspects: Anum Joseph, Joshua Aboagye, Kwesi Acquaye, and Acquaye Samuel. The weapon used in the attack was also recovered.

The deceased’s body has been sent to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the injured police officer has been treated and discharged.

Suspect Daniel Quaye and his four accomplices are currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
