The Ghana Police Service has successfully secured the conviction of five armed robbers responsible for a string of violent crimes, including robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and abetment of crime by supplying ammunition. The convicted criminals, Jeffrey Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Prince Opuni, and Henry Kusi Marfo, were sentenced by the court to a total of over 200 years in prison with hard labor.
The court found Jeffrey Dwomoh and Clifford Opoku guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. Both were sentenced to 120 years of imprisonment each, to be served with hard labor. Meanwhile, Kwabena Kyei Barfour received a 105-year sentence, also with hard labor, for his involvement in the criminal activities.
Prince Opuni was convicted of reckless and inconsiderate driving during one of the crimes, for which he was fined 350 penalty units. Failure to pay would result in a 10-month custodial sentence with hard labor. He was also ordered to pay GH¢ 5,000 in damages for a police vehicle he damaged during the incident.
Henry Kusi Marfo, who was convicted of supplying ammunition to facilitate the robberies, was fined 1,050 penalty units or, in default, would serve 15 months in prison with hard labor. Marfo has since paid the fine.
Two additional suspects, Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah, were acquitted of charges related to abetment of robbery.
The identities and images of the convicted criminals have been made public following their sentencing, as they are no longer considered suspects but confirmed convicts.
