Father Killed, Son Critically Injured in Armed Robbery on Bole-Bamboi Highway

A man identified as Balenbogma, believed to be in his 50s, was shot dead and his son critically injured in a violent armed robbery attack on the Bole-Bamboi highway near Taselema on Wednesday evening.

The victims were travelling from Sunyani to Lawra to attend their late mother’s funeral when they fell victim to the attack, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. along the Techiman-Wa route.

According to eyewitnesses, including commercial drivers who narrowly escaped, the robbers exploited the deteriorating condition of the road to mount their ambush. The stretch has become notorious for such incidents, with reports of frequent attacks and growing insecurity.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Taselema Polyclinic morgue, while his injured son is receiving emergency treatment at the same facility.

Some witnesses also alleged that in previous robberies, female passengers had been sexually assaulted by the criminals, deepening concerns over safety on the road.

Local residents and commuters are now calling on the government to urgently fix the road and intensify police patrols to protect lives and prevent further attacks.

The tragic incident adds to growing pressure on authorities to prioritize rural highway safety and infrastructure rehabilitation in northern Ghana.
