
A tragic incident has struck the farming community of Daboasi in the Western Region after a palm wine tapper, identified as Kwofie, lost his life in a dispute over a GHC200 weeding fee.
The confrontation occurred on Monday, August 25, 2025, around 1 p.m. on Kwofie’s plantation. According to reports, a young man popularly known as “Akuffu Addo,” who had been hired to weed the farm, demanded his payment of GHC200, which had allegedly been delayed on three occasions.
Witnesses say the disagreement escalated, leading to the fatal attack. The suspect, believed to be in his early 40s, is currently in police custody. Residents allege he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Community members expressed shock, describing the killing as the first of its kind in the area. Many youths reportedly gathered at the police station demanding swift justice.
Assembly member Seth Cudjoe confirmed that residents apprehended the suspect before handing him over to the police. He assured the community that the matter is under investigation.
