Family Seeks Justice for 24-Year-Old KNUST Graduate Found Dead in Takoradi Hotel Pool

Lois Abena Koranteng, a 24-year-old graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), tragically died under mysterious circumstances during a business trip to Takoradi. Traveling with her boss and a driver on June 8, 2024, Lois kept in touch with her family, expressing her intention to return home after completing her work.

The following day, her family received a distressing phone call informing them that Lois, the youngest of three siblings, had been found lifeless in the hotel swimming pool where she was staying.

“She was employed by an energy company and often traveled to Takoradi and other locations on weekends for work. We spoke to her before she left, and around 5:30 am the next day, we were notified that she had been found lifeless in the hotel swimming pool where they were staying. Her body had been taken to the hospital, and the police had begun their investigation when close family members arrived at the scene,” her brother, Aaron Koranteng, shared with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show.

The circumstances surrounding Lois’s death remain unclear. After checking into her hotel room for the night, it is reported that she emerged around midnight to swim in the pool.

“Her boss informed us that she left her room at midnight to use the pool,” he added.

Many are questioning how she was permitted to access the swimming pool at such a late hour. A police autopsy found no signs of trauma or injury on her body.

Complicating matters, the hotel has been unable to provide CCTV footage, claiming their cameras were non-functional at the time.

“Last Monday, we met with the police, and upon their request, Lois’s body was transferred to Korle-Bu, where we witnessed the autopsy. We are still awaiting the final report as the police continue their investigation,” Aaron Koranteng noted.

Lois was discovered by a hotel worker in the early hours of June 8, 2024. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she could not be saved. The police investigation revealed no physical injuries on her body. However, the hotel claimed that their CCTV cameras were not operational, hindering further insight into the incident.

A postmortem has been completed and is currently with the police as the investigation continues.
