Former Black Starlets coach, Laryea Kingston, has taken up an exciting new role as head coach at RPS Academies in Saint Lucie, Florida, USA. The Ghanaian coach, who officially started on September 1, will be responsible for developing young football talents in the multi-sport academy, which offers a wide range of disciplines, including football, tennis, golf, volleyball, and pickleball.
Kingston, who holds a UEFA Licence B coaching certificate, brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at the Right to Dream Academy and Danish club Nordsjaelland’s under-18 team. His new position will see him not only oversee the coaching staff but also lead the football department under a five-year contract, with performance evaluations every two years.
In an interview with Kingston expressed his excitement about the new challenge, especially after leaving his role with the Black Starlets during the U-17 WAFU B Championship in Accra. He shared that his new employers had been monitoring his progress for a while before offering him the opportunity.
RPS Academies follows a model similar to the Right to Dream Academy, which has produced several top football talents, including Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana. Kingston plans to introduce game models and oversee the development of the academy’s three-tier football teams. He also aims to expand the academy’s recruitment network to Africa, much like Right to Dream has done.
While fully committed to his new role in the US, Kingston hasn’t ruled out future involvement with Ghana’s senior national team or his former club, Hearts of Oak.
