On October 29, 2023, Erastus Asare Donkor, a prominent figure from the Multimedia Group Limited, secured the prestigious PAV Ansah GJA Journalist of the Year title at the annual event hosted by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to recognize exceptional journalism. Donkor’s remarkable work, “Destruction for Gold,” earned him the top accolade, and he also claimed an award in the illegal mining category.
The Accra International Conference Centre was the venue for the award ceremony, held under the theme “Leveraging media freedom to sustain the democratic and security architecture! The litmus test of election 2024.” In celebrating Erastus Asare Donkor’s excellence, the GJA praised his substantial contributions to the nation’s development.
Acknowledging him as a hero and a true patriot, the GJA commended Mr. Donkor for exemplifying outstanding journalism standards throughout 2022, culminating in his impactful three-part documentary, “Destruction for Gold.” In this work, he exposed the avarice and individuals responsible for the rampant environmental degradation, shedding light on a peril endangering the nation. The Ghana Journalists Association expressed its pride in honoring Erastus Asare Donkor with the PAV Ansah Journalist of the Year Award for his exceptional journalism and the courage he displayed in fulfilling a critical duty in the nation’s interest.
Following his reception of the award, Erastus Asare Donkor took the opportunity to acknowledge the colleagues who also risked their safety to cover similar stories. He expressed humility and gratitude, attributing his success to a higher power and emphasizing the significance of responsible journalism in society.
He extended his gratitude to his wife and the unsung heroes and heroines who provide support, mentorship, and prayers. Additionally, he called upon the government to take a proactive stance in enforcing existing laws and regulations aimed at protecting both the environment and the people.
