The leadership of the Public Services Workers Union of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced an indefinite strike set to commence on Friday, May 3, 2024.
The strike is a response to perceived efforts to evict the EPA’s executive director, Dr. Kingsly Krugu, from his official residence to accommodate the new Interior Minister, Henry Quartey.
In a statement to union members, Chairman Godsway Daniels instructed all staff to cease work starting Friday.
The workers plan to march to the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Innovation to deliver a petition and occupy the contested bungalow to prevent the Interior Ministry from ejecting their boss.
Mr. Daniels warned Works and Housing Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah to refrain from interfering with the bungalow, citing the EPA’s lack of financial capability to renovate a new residence.
He also raised questions about the status of the bungalow previously occupied by interior ministers, questioning whether it has been sold and to whom.
