Election Watch Ghana, a civil society organization, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to probe Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, over allegations of electoral misconduct.
The call for investigation follows a viral video from the recent Ejisu by-election, where Dr. Nyarko was seen handing a white envelope to two temporary officials of the Electoral Commission.
In their petition to the IGP, Election Watch Ghana emphasized the need to prosecute Dr. Nyarko to restore public confidence in Ghana’s democratic institutions and uphold the rule of law.
They condemned the alleged act of corruption, stating that it undermines the integrity of the country’s democracy.
The group is urging the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to take immediate action by arresting the MP.
They emphasized the importance of swift action to maintain public trust in democratic institutions.
In response to the allegations, the Electoral Commission clarified that the envelope given to its officials was for lunch expenses, not as a bribe.
Dr. Nyarko has also denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he did not offer a bribe to the officials.
Election Watch Ghana has stated that they will closely monitor the case and expect a prompt response from the IGP regarding the actions to be taken.
