Veteran lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata has told the seven-member panel hearing the election petition that, the Electoral Commission cooked figures in favour Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the fudging of the figures was an indication that the “figures were just thrown out.”
“There is evidence that there were changes in the figures announced. There is also evidence that there was a pre-determined agenda to ensure the 2nd Respondent wins the election,” the veteran legal luminary told the panel on Friday, January 29, 2021.
Former President Mahama who was the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 election, petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the results as declared by the EC.
Akufo-Addo defeated Mahama in the election to secure another four-year term; collecting 51.302% of the votes cast against the latter’s 47.359%, according to the EC.
The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.
But Mahama held that there was no winner in the election. He is, therefore, calling on the Supreme Court to cancel the results and order for a rerun between him and Akufo-Addo.
