Election 2024: CODEO Warns Media Not to Announce Results Ahead of EC

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has urged media houses to refrain from prematurely announcing election results during the 2024 General Elections.

This call was made at the launch of Citi FM and Channel One TV’s 2024 General Elections Coverage in Accra on September 10, 2024.

Albert Arhin, National Coordinator of CODEO, emphasized that only the Electoral Commission (EC) has the authority to declare official election results.

Premature announcements by media outlets could cause confusion and unrest among voters, potentially compromising the credibility of the election process.

Although CODEO may have access to results earlier, Arhin noted that the organization follows protocol by waiting for the EC to make the official announcement.

He encouraged the media to uphold this standard to preserve public trust and ensure a peaceful election.
