A violent clash between two rival youth groups in Kasoa turned the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations into chaos, leaving three people injured, one of whom is in critical condition.

The altercation occurred between groups from Walantu and Odupongkpehe Zongo, two Muslim-dominated communities in Kasoa, who had an existing feud. According to a relative of one of the victims, tensions had been simmering but were suppressed during the fasting period and through the intervention of community leaders. However, a street carnival meant to mark the end of Eid celebrations reignited the conflict.

A female victim recounted, “I was having fun with my friends when the violence suddenly erupted. I felt a sharp cut on my hand.”

The police acted swiftly, arresting one suspect who is currently in custody at the CBD police station in Kasoa. A hammer and other dangerous weapons were retrieved at the scene, and authorities revealed that many participants carried well-sharpened machetes.
