The Ministry of Education has commissioned an audit into sanitary pads supplied in 2025 under the Free Sanitary Pads Programme following concerns about product quality.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that the move comes after the Consumer Protection Agency of Ghana raised issues regarding the standard of some sanitary pads distributed to schools last year.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Minister said he has tasked a team of auditors to visit schools and assess the quality of the products supplied.

“I have asked a team of auditors to go round the schools and do an audit of the quality of some of the sanitary pads that were supplied. Because I have received concerns from the Consumer Protection Agency of Ghana on the poor quality of some of the sanitary pads we supplied last year [2025],” he stated.

He added that the Ministry is currently reviewing the assessment report to determine the next line of action, stressing that there will be zero tolerance for substandard products.

“We’re evaluating the report of the assessment. We want the companies to be mindful of the minimum standards so that they produce quality and not produce things that will embarrass the government and then students; there will be zero tolerance for poor sanitary pads,” Mr. Iddrisu said.

Meanwhile, Softcare FM Manufacturing Limited, a sanitary pad producer, donated 10,000 sanitary pads to the Ministry during the Minister’s visit to the company’s factory. The Minister directed that the items be presented to Christian Methodist Senior High School, the nearest SHS to the facility, to support female students.
