EC to Rerun Council of State Election in Two Regions on Feb 17

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a rerun of the Council of State elections in the North East and Ashanti Regions on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Reasons for the Rerun

• North East Region: The rerun was necessitated by a tie between two candidates, each securing six votes.
• Ashanti Region: The election process was disrupted by chaos during the ballot counting, leaving it incomplete.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 12, the EC confirmed that it has formally requested the Ghana Police Service and the National Election Security Taskforce to strengthen security at the election venues to prevent any further disruptions.
