The Electoral Commission (EC) will on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, meet all political parties contesting the upcoming Akwatia by-election to review their preparedness and outline key modalities for the polls.
The by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, follows the death of Ernest Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, after a short illness.
Addressing journalists in Akwatia on Monday, August 25, the EC’s Eastern Regional Director, Joe Appiah Baffoe, assured stakeholders of a transparent and credible process.
“Our common interest is to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election. We entreat all political parties to conform to the rules so that, in the end, we can all achieve the peaceful election we are seeking,” Mr. Baffoe said.
He added that Wednesday’s meeting will provide an opportunity for the Commission to directly engage parties and their candidates on key operational arrangements.
