The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced plans to broadcast the upcoming Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting live on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. This historic move aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the Commission’s engagements with political parties as the nation prepares for the December general elections.
According to the EC, the decision to air the IPAC meeting live is intended to give Ghanaians a firsthand view of the discussions and decision-making processes regarding electoral reforms, voter registration, and other critical issues. The live broadcast will educate the public on the election register and related procedures.
The EC emphasized that this initiative was taken independently and was not a response to external pressure, despite previous calls by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for IPAC meetings to be broadcasted. Initially, the EC had rejected the NDC’s request, but it has now reversed its stance, stressing that the move is designed to build public confidence in the electoral process.
Representatives from all registered political parties will participate in the meeting, which will focus on election logistics, voter registration, and the integrity of the electoral roll. The NDC, which had previously expressed concerns about the EC’s reluctance to air IPAC meetings, has welcomed the decision, noting that the broadcast will enable Ghanaians to assess the fairness of the process.
